Plumbing Estimate Checklist: Compare Scope, Not Just Price
A homeowner checklist for comparing plumbing proposals, including access, parts, restoration, permits and warranty.
Define the problem and proposed fix
A useful estimate should explain what is being repaired or replaced and, when known, why that work addresses the problem.
Clarify access and restoration
Plumbing work can require opening walls, ceilings, floors or cabinets. Confirm who handles access and who restores finishes afterward.
Understand included materials
Ask what fixtures, valves, piping or equipment are included, whether substitutions are allowed, and how additional work is approved.
Confirm warranty and closeout
Get labor and material warranty information, permit responsibility where applicable, payment terms and final documentation in writing.
